Cornbread with Spicy Honey Butter

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp vegetable shortening melted
  • 2 cups cornmeal course
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450F. Preheat the pan in the oven for 10 minutes.

  2. Mix cornmeal, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. 

  3. Whisk together melted shortening, buttermilk and egg in a small bowl. 

  4. Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.

  5. Carefully take the hot pan out of the oven and spray with cooking oil. Pour batter into pan.

  6. Bake for 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
